Our History…

Stark Brooks was founded in Manchester in 1983 when the ‘recruitment industry’ was still relatively unknown.  The initial service offering was the recruitment of qualified accountants into SME’s.  Business expansion has been led by client demand and not shareholder aspirations.

We crossed the Pennines and opened our Yorkshire office in Leeds in 1990.

1996 saw the first of our major ‘Blue chip’ client wins, beating 24 national recruitment businesses to recruit in excess of 50 accounting staff for British Aerospace, now BAE SYSTEMS.

1999 saw us launch an interim and temporary solutions division.

A 2002 MBO from one of the original business founders was led by Sally Toumi who joined us in 1993 and has been fundamental to the business growth and highly regarded reputation.

2003 saw more client led expansion, this time ‘upwards’ as we launched our executive search practice created to recruit Board level positions other than accountants.

2004 saw our second mainstream division created – this time a specialist HR recruitment division.

2005 saw a milestone in the creation of our in-house research team and market mapping services.

In 2006, following the success of the research function, we launched our Middle and Junior management division.  By utilising search methodologies usually only associated with senior appointments, ‘hard to find’ people have been appointed into ‘difficult to fill’ roles such as architects, project managers, land managers, and even receptionists.

2008 saw the non-finance side of the business out-perform the financial recruitment business. Stark Brooks were no longer a Financial Recruitment business. This year saw us recruit Managing Directors, Sales Directors and Mangers, HR Directors, IT Directors, Procurement Directors, Chief Operating Officers….and even the odd Maitre d’…..!

2009 looks even more exciting as we look to the future...

Throughout its history, Stark Brooks has always been a private company, with the owners of the business retaining hands-on recruitment responsibilities as well as fulfilling their roles as managing directors.
